Our Economic, Environmental, and Social Commitment

Reducing waste, promoting recycling, and ensuring a future for the next generations.

The protection, love, and respect for our land make us aware of the need to market a "sustainable wine" capable of respecting the environment throughout the entire production chain, both economically and socially.

We are committed to actively contributing to the economic and social progress of the region while respecting and protecting the environment by identifying solutions that can limit potential negative impacts on our territory.

In the Vineyard

Constant monitoring of the production chain, expertly managed by  Citra Wine Team, is essential to study all production processes and the most suitable agronomic practices. Thanks to the use of precision agriculture, it is possible to map the vineyard with detailed precision to assess the physical and chemical parameters of the soil.

In 2017, we started study the production areas of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC, Trebbiano d’Abruzzo DOC, Pecorino, and Passerina. The aim of this zoning project is to identify the most suitable areas for growing native grapes within the province of Chieti, in order to monitor production, manage agronomic practices and improve quality.

MAPPIAMO precision viticulture project involves three national cooperative wineries. The goal is to provide the participating wineries and all their primary and secondary stakeholders with a digital and georeferenced platform that assists technicians and farmers in decision-making process.

In the Company

Two photovoltaic systems of 199 KWH each. The energy produced is reused for the operations of the production processes.

Two bottling lines with real-time automatic controls (optical inspectors) help optimise and limit waste and reduce the risk of contamination. A new bag-in-box packaging line has been introduced. This growing format responds to the demand for more sustainable packaging.

Increasingly eco-friendly packaging:

  • Glass Lightweight bottles (<500g) account for 95% of yearly production.
  • Caps 93% of caps used come from sustainable, renewable plant-based materials and aluminum. Additionally, by purchasing 8,064,000 'Net zero plastic to nature' Nomacorc Blue Line closures, Citra has contributed to collecting 5,440 kg of plastic waste and played a significant role in the global fight against plastic pollution, helping sequester 4,304 kg of CO2.
  • Packaging Reduction of packaging waste. Use of corrugated cardboard made from recycled paper.
  • Cycle 4 Green In 2023, we joined the Cycle 4 Green program for the disposal of label liners. This initiative allowed us to recycle 29.7 tons of release paper waste, equating to an estimated reduction of 56 tons of CO₂ equivalent.

Differentiated waste management. . 90% of waste was directed towards recovery.

Social

Working for the Community

We are among the largest communities of winemakers of our region – Abruzzo - and we are aware of the great responsibility we have towards the entire local community: this applies today and, most importantly, for the future of the next generations.

We work with a glocal approach, promoting local growth with a global vision, and we are committed to ensuring quality, food safety, and protection of the workplace and the environment, as evidenced by our SA8000 ethical certification.

Collaborations with the Local Community

Collaboration with the whole local community is essential through cultural events, social activities, and partnerships with universities (UniTe, UdA) and research institutions for the development of R&D projects, studies to assess our social impact on stakeholders (winemakers, community, workers, suppliers, and consumers), and initiatives to raise environmental awareness in schools, such as #cultivatingvaluesforthefuture.
